Opinion essay - Adrià López

It is widely known that a vast majority of governments forbid many drugs owning to the fact they are addictive. Notwithstanding, alcohol and tobacco are legal and addictive. Should the governments outlaw them?

As far as I am concerned, I would not illegalize them due to the fact they provide a great source of money in terms of taxes at the same time consumers are free to buy them. For instance, according to the newspaper OkDiario, more than a third of taxes earned belongs to these consumers, so it is a win-win situation.

Moreover, studies show that the percentage of legal drug addicts is less than 5% in Spain. Furthermore, the governments have an excellent attitude towards people's health as they forbid this kind of advertisements long ago and recommends being aware of its consequences.

To sum up, I believe that on the whole, less harmful drugs should not be illegalized because they contribute to our economy.
