For and Against Essay

Do speaking two languages has obvious practical benefits in an increasingly globalized world? And if it has them, do speaking two languages have disadvantages?

On one hand, speaking a second language improves problem-solving, multi-tasking and decision-making. Numerous studies have found that bilingualism can improve brain functions like the ability to focus attention and perform mental tasks. Also, in an increasingly globalized world speaking two languages creates you advantages to find a work, to travel to other countries and more situations.

On the other hand, in the brain of a bilingual person there are two languages active constantly, that could make to verbal skills of a bilingual person to be weaker than persons who only speaks that language. Also bilingual person often mix the languages (as I do with catalan and spanish).

In general, I think advantages of bilingualism are bigger than it's disadvantages, so I consider everyone should learn at least two languages.
