FOR AND AGAINST ESSAY - Laura Celaya

Since the music has become one of the most powerful industries around the globe, making, in that way, record companies earn lots of money for every single or album that they release. Due to that, it has started a debate between the people that defend to buy it and the ones that defend to pirate it.

On one hand, both musicians and record companies have spent time and money in the creation, production and release of one song or a full album, so, in order to have a profitable business as well as to keep investing in other releases, they have to obtain some benefit from the music that they produce.

On the other hand, most of the people listen to music every day in various moments, however, the record companies have progressively increased the price that they charge for a song or album, causing that certain people could not afford to buy music, as a result, they decide to pirate it instead.

Personally, I believe that if the record companies want to prevent people from pirating their music, they have to reduce the prices, so as to make them affordable for everyone. To sum up, music should be in reach of all citizens since everybody has the right to enjoy the music that they love.
