INFORMAL LETTER
Dear Sarah,

How are you? I hope that things are going perfect around there. First of all, I would like to thank your parents for letting me stay in your house, it has been a while since you ended the exchange and left Barcelona and I miss you, I also miss Alfred and the other boys, they were hilarious. I’m very nervous as my departure is in three days, so close by that I cannot take it out of my head.

I had never been there so I expect to see weird stuff as soon as I jump out of the plane. They say that Sydney has a beautiful coast line (I can’t wait to scuba dive through the great barrier reef) and that the opera house is magnificent. I also hope to see at least one koala there and it would be great to see more of the exotic fauna like platypus or kangaroos, here the most exotic thing is Umberto, you surely remember him. I’m sure that you will take me to wonderful places that only locals know and that you will feed me with the local gastronomy.

Anyway I will leave all the planning to you boys like we did here in Barcelona, I miss the boys so I hope we can make fond memories as we did here. I truly miss you.
Lots of love
Antonio

Dear Sarah,
Thanks so much for your email. It was so good to hear from you. I’m really sorry not to have been in touch earlier but I’ve been up to my eyes preparing for my exams.
What great news that you’ve invited me to spent some time with you in Sidney. First of all, I can’t be more excited to go again to one of my favourite cities. Another thing I would like to ask you is about what to do if I want to go to the famous opera. I don’t know how everything works there neither if you would like to go with me. Well, I’m giving to this future trip too much thought and there’s nothing in what I’m more interested right now.
Anyway, I hope that’s helped give you a few ideas. Do write back as soon as you can - I’d like to hear all the details of your plans.
Jack.

INFORMAL EMAIL - Laura Celaya

Hi Sarah,
How are you? How are you spending your holidays?
I’m so excited to go to Australia, but I’m also a little nervous about meeting you again and for flying in another country. Moreover, it will be the first time that I will be flying alone and I’m a bit overwhelmed, but I’m sure all will be fine.
Since I knew that I would be going there during the summer I have also been searching for exciting things to do such as hang out at the beach, visit the Royal Botanic Gardens or, if it’s possible, I’d love to take some surf classes. Although, you have probably planned a lot of activities and, even though I hope you’ve found my proposals interesting, I’m sure that we will have a great time together as well as with your family doing whatever we finally choose to do.
Well, I’d better go now as I´ve homework to do for tomorrow.
I can't wait to see you soon!
Best wishes,
Laura

Hello Johan,
How are you? Sorry for not answering you for long, but we are in quarantine and we have many difficulties. As you told me you didn't have Facebook, I'm going to help you.

First of all, you must install Facebook because this tool allows speaking with people all over the world and wherever you want and when you want. Also, you can receive news about everything, but you have to be careful because there are fake news.

Secondly, you should know that in Facebook you can play lots of video games with your friends and call them while you play. So we can play together!

I hope some of my suggestions help you. I have to leave now, if you need something tell me.

Take care,
Marc

Dear Jack,
How is going the quarantine week? I have not written to you before. Things have been quite busy these days. I am actually writing you because all friends told me you don't have a Facebook account.

Create a Facebook account has a lot of advantages and some disadvantages such as share funny things with all your friends, posting what are you doing and chatting whoever you want to chat with, do video calls with whoever. The principal disadvantage of Facebook is that it uses open profiles so that everyone can see yours, but they it has been added the possibility to block any account you want to not let them see your account or contact with your.

What do you think about my proposal?
Write me.

See you soon,

Nico

Hi Sarah!

How are you? I’m really excited about your invitation and very thankful for that.

Australia, as you know, it’s a place I really love and where I want to travel since I was little. During this experience I think I would improve my level of English, especially my pronunciation and vocabulary. Furthermore, there I would learn about your culture and about your way of thinking, I think that because I live so far of Australia and the daily basis can change.

However, I will miss my family and friends, also my home and way of living. But that can help me to be more independent and social.

Dear Sarah,

Thank you for your invitation to spend some time with you and your family!
How are you doing? I'm so excited about visiting Sydney,
and that makes a lot of questions in my head.

First of all, what can I expect to learn there? It is an important question for me because
all the trips I have done, left in me some kind of knowledge. For example when I went to Mexico,
I learnt about Mayan culture and when I went to Peru I learnt about Inca culture.

I don't know to much about Australia history that's why I don't know what to expect. I believe that
I can learn about the tipic flora and fauna but I'm eager to know more about ancient cultures.

But we'll you'll tell me what we can visit when the time comes. My last question would be, what's
the weather like? I don't know what to bring to not overload my suitcase.

Anyway, I must dash now. Drop me a line soon and let me know all the information you can
give me.

Best wishes,

Hi Sarah,

How's all going? Sorry for not seeing all the messages you sent me, but I haven't got time because I'm doing a list of things to do in Australia.

First of all, I've seen a place that I can't definitely miss, the Opera House. Since the moment I saw it, I knew I had to go there sightseeing to learn the history of the building. Also, as you told me, I'd like to learn to ride a kangaroo as it is utterly popular in Australia, isn't it?

As for the food, I've seen some dishes such as grilled koala that look delicious and I'm keen on learning to cook it. So don't forget to teach me how the kitchen works.

Anyway, I must dash now. I have to take my dog out. Call me!

Hi Steve,

It’s been a while since our last contact. I’ve been too busy with homework and I couldn’t write you but how is the quarantine du to COVID-19 going?  I know that you’re reluctant to use Facebook because of the fear of losing intimacy and spending too much time on it, but I’ll try to persuade you to install Facebook because I think it could be a good tool to be more in contact with me and the group as this week you’ve been a bit isolated.

With Facebook you will be able to chat with your friends, the conversation would be more fluid than with email because we look more often Facebook. You will also be able to share your day, photos, news, etc. with friends. I know that privacy is important to you, but I’ve never had any problem. You are free to post only the things that you want.

Hope to see you soon,
David

Hi, John!

How are you? I’ve hears that you are thinking about joining Facebook, but you are reluctant because of the idea of losing intimacy and wasting your time.

Since you told me you are not sure what to do, I’m going to give you some help.
First of all, you absolutely need to install Facebook because it’s a good and easy tool that can help you on knowing what is happening around you: news, sports, premieres…But you have to be careful, not all the information given is reliable. There are lots of fake news!

Secondly, Facebook is a main way of free entertaining. You can play games with your friends, do polls or find new people that you may be interested in. I understand that you don’t want to spend too much time on this but that’s up to you. You are able to choose (in settings menu) how much time you want to spend on the app.

I hope some of my suggestions will proof useful to you. Maybe someday you could stop by my house and tell me your impressions.

Take care,

Hi John,
How have you been lately? Sorry, I haven't written for so long, but we are all suffering difficult days with the quarantine and I'm quite busy. I'm talking to all my friends through Facebook but as you don't have this app, I have to write to you by email. It would be nice downloading Facebook so we could speak better.
Having Facebook means being able to share photos and messages with your friends and also being able to create a group with all your friends. Otherwise, I have to tell you the main disadvantage of this app. This is, that all accounts are open to everyone and therefore all people can see your profile.
Let me know what you think about it. Looking forward to hearing from you.

Respecting tourism, I’ve wanted to see Australian’s spectacular flora and fauna cause Australia it’s one of the most ecological countries. Look Kangaroos, koalas, dingoes, etc. Furthermore, we can see the Sydney Opera House I saw on a television show the other day and I fell in love with its structure.

Finally, I want to help the coronavirus suffers, as you know, I’m a nurse entitled and I heard that there they are having a bad time.

Anyway, Lots of love to you and your family. See you soon!

Dear Mark;

Hi! How have you been this quarantine week? I'm sorry I haven't written to you in a while. Things have been quite tied-up these days. Anyway, I do have something to discuss with you considering the situation we are living these days. I'm actually writing you cause Paul told me you don't have a Facebook account and I think it could be great if you had one.

Having a Facebook account has many advantages such as being able to share funny things with all your friends, posting what are you doing and chatting whoever you want to chat with. The main disadvantage is that Facebook uses open profiles so that everyone can see yours, but they have created a solution for that, it has been added the possibility to block any account you want to not let them see your account.

Let me know what do you think about my proposal, I hope to hear back from you soon!

Hi Lucy,

How's it going? Sorry I haven’t been in touch for months but I've been really busy with my exams.

You remember that on Facebook there're the profiles of the teachers that we had in primary. The other day, I was talking with your little brother and he told me that you didn't have Facebook. But I realized that being on social media takes away privacy, you're more aware of what the people do, you use more the mobile and there’re many fake news.

Has a lot of advantages too, you can meet people who haven't known anything for a long time, meet new people, find out everything that happens in the world also it's hard to get bored when you use it.

I hope this has helped you get Facebook, if you are careful it can be a helpful social network.

See you soon on Facebook, I hope!

Hi Sarah,
How’s it going? Sorry, I haven't had much time to write to you, I've been very busy with exams!

I’m very excited to take the plane to go to Australia with you and your family! At the beginning, when you invited me and your family, I wasn't sure if I was going to go there alone since it will be my first time traveling alone, but my family told me it was an incredible opportunity. There is still a week for me to go there, but I already have the suitcase, the passport and the plane tickets prepared.

I look forward to going there to improve my English and come back with an accent like a good Australian. I also really want to learn your culture, your customs, your food, celebrations that you do, like for example your water carnival.

One sport that I am very excited to learn during my stay there, is surfing, since I have been told that Australia has incredible waves to surf, and above all discover the Pacific Ocean, be able to snorkel and see sharks and all kinds of fish.

So, hope everyone’s doing well, let’s meet up soon.
